The Towns Park Design Project

The Towns is one of Regina’s newest southeast subdivisions, named after the pioneering towns that helped settle Saskatchewan. Most of these towns no longer exist and the rich history has been forgotten—The Towns intends to pay homage to these communities through street names, amenities, parks, and landscaping elements to evoke the basics of small-town living, a sense of community, and connection to our past.

To design the main park in this community, Terra Developments, the City of Regina, and Stantec sought assistance from Mrs. Parisienne’s Grade 5 class at St. Gabriel School in the neighboring community of Windsor Park. The class accepted and embarked on a collaboration that involved planning, collaboration, preliminary design workshops, and a site visit to discuss what the kids would like to see for design features in a park space. The students quickly took the reins of their design role and worked together in small groups with some guidance from Terra and Stantec to complete preliminary design plans for our Stantec team to take forward to the City of Regina for approvals.

The creativity and effort put forward by the students helped shape the final park design that is now under detailed design and set for future construction.
