United Boulevard Waste and Recycling Centre

The new United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre in Coquitlam replaces a nearby existing facility. Three times larger than the old center, this new facility offers both residential recycling and garbage drop-off for self-haul customers and large vehicle commercial and municipal garbage transfer.

Our role? As prime consultant, we implemented innovative methodologies for sustainable development including using incinerator bottom ash as structural fill. In transforming a brownfield site—on top of a former landfill—our engineering solutions tackled geotechnical, structural, and environmental challenges for safe and reliable development. We navigated complexities such as landfill gas management, closure requirements, and differential settlements. The facility boasts a massive steel superstructure with operational flexibility and green infrastructure elements for enhanced safety and efficiency, addressing challenges like subsidence and methane emissions.

Now, this new convenient facility makes managing recycling and waste a breeze for residents, businesses, and the municipality.
