West Memorial Building - Envelope and Energy Consulting

As part of their program to reduce federal carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency, Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) aimed to transform the West Memorial Building. They wanted to create a modern, sustainable workplace in the 1958 building while preserving its heritage character.

Our team provided building envelope consulting, civil engineering, energy modeling, sustainability services, and code-compliance expertise. Through integrated design and careful coordination, we helped deliver a revitalized landmark that honors the building’s architectural legacy while meeting contemporary standards for efficiency, durability, and sustainability.

We developed strategies to meet the National Energy Code for Buildings and achieve Four Green Globes certification, while respecting original limestone façades, heritage windows, and doors. Our envelope specialists addressed durability and thermal performance challenges for continuity of air and moisture control and reducing freeze-thaw damage without compromising historic aesthetics.

Today, the renewed West Memorial Building not only operates more efficiently, but also provides improvements to the building envelope, occupant comfort, air quality, and water efficiency, creating a healthier environment for employees and reinforcing the government’s commitment to climate leadership.
