A resident stewardship environment and detailed landscape finish combine to deliver a community that promotes walkability

While delivering residential townhomes and mid-rise condominium units, the Westminster Woods subdivision planned to feature community-focused uses such as a satellite library and functional linear greenway systems, parks, trails, and open community spaces.

Over five phases of development, our team provided contract administration, topographic surveying, preliminary and detailed design of area grading, and municipal infrastructure and stormwater management (SWM) services. The site presented a challenge as it needed to retain all stormwater runoff up to the 100-year storm without any surface discharge. Our solution was to link the surface and groundwater models to simulate infiltration processes for water entering the greenway. All runoff now passes through oil/grit separators and enters the greenway through sediment forebays that provide additional water quality control before water flows through vegetated areas. Stormwater entering the greenway is safely contained until infiltration or evapotranspiration occur.

The resulting greenway system—which accommodates an extensive system of community trails, parks, passive recreation opportunities, and SWM functions—has contributed greatly to the site receiving preference over other developments and garnering attention from health interest groups.
