Westmount Park Protection and Enhancement Plan

As part of its Parks and Green Spaces master plan, the City of Westmount hired our multidisciplinary team to rethink Westmount Park, a 10-hectare (25-acre), 100-year-old space that had been developed in 1912 in the spirit of Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect responsible for Mount Royal Park and Central Park in New York City.

Taking the form of an enhancement and protection plan, our mandate included a land use analysis, extensive participation process, and the development of a design concept. We surveyed residents to identify the features they wanted kept or changed and to gauge the level of user satisfaction with the park’s facilities. Based on the land use analysis and participation process, our Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning teams came up with some development concepts that aligned with user needs and the park’s identity.

Among other things, we proposed an integrated runoff management plan, a redesign of the pathways and bike path, a renaturalization of the pond, a revitalization of rest areas and children’s play structures, a renovation of the municipal heritage buildings, and a modernization of the technical equipment.
