Providing a wide range of services to support the second largest wind farm in Canada

As many public agencies and companies seek alternatives to generate more power, a site near Kingston, Ontario proves to be an ideal location for a wind farm able to generate 197.8 MW of power, or roughly enough power about 70,000 households. Our team of environmental biologists, planners, landscape architects, and transportation engineers was asked to provide a range of environmental services from assessments, to permitting, to expert testimony, to ongoing operational support in order to make the Wolf Island Wind Project a reality. 

Working with our client, our goal was to design and implement the project in a way that best protects the environment with as little disruption to the local community as possible. There were many challenges including the visibility of the project, historic sites in the area, sailing and navigation along the St. Lawrence Seaway, underground features including shipwrecks, local community concerns, and use of minimum-security federal penitentiary land for siting the transmission line. Now in its third year of operation, we continue extensive monitoring programs that help our client make any necessary adjustments.
