Helping to provide Bermuda with a healing environment they can trust

Hospitals are a precious resource. They shelter us when we’re ill, and they host us while we recover. When you pack a bag to stay at a hospital, whether it’s for a few days or a few weeks, that hospital becomes a second home. For the Bermuda Hospital Board (BHB), protecting their patients’ safety went hand in hand with providing a healing environment.

They asked us to take a look at their security services and technologies. To improve their ability to deliver that safe and secure environment—for patients and staff both. Our information and communications technology team reviewed all the BHB facilities including the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Centre, the addictions and mental health facility, nurse’s residences, group homes, the Urgent Care Centre, and the newly expanded critical care and chronic care facilities.

After an on-site review of security operations, we scored all facilities against industry guidelines and best practices. Our gap analysis recommended security upgrades and changes in technology, staffing, and training. With this report, BHB has a roadmap that they can use for enhancements such as access control, video surveillance, communication systems, duress alarms, guard tours, key security, and monitoring systems—further improving on the health and safety of their people.
