ADB Geothermal Technical Assessment and Environmental Social Service

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been a key client in our International Financial Institution (IFI) sector for years. When the ADB, Asia Climate Partners (ACP), and other potential investors were considering an investment into a leading geothermal company in Northern China, we were commissioned to conduct technical, environmental, and social due diligence services at both corporate and subproject levels.

We worked to identify environmental and social risks and propose corresponding practical mitigation measures, the establishment and support of implementation of corresponding management system, and capability building and support on issues closure. After delivering these services, Stantec China continued as consultants, developing an environmental and social management system for the target company as well as providing training to raise the environmental and social management capability. We were also hired to conduct project-level compliance audits for fund disbursement purposes as well as annual reporting for the firm’s environmental and social performance moving forward.

With this investment in place, the ADB, ACP, and their partners will support construction and the operation of a series of geothermal district heating projects in second- and third-tier cities of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
