Elevating our client’s position in the global financial market through environmental and social due diligence
Asian Development Bank (ADB) requires borrowers to meet their environment and social (E&S) precaution measures and performance criterion. In 2018, ADB approached Stantec to assist a major Chinese water sector company and conduct an environment and social due diligence (ESDD) assessment of the company and its selected project sites in Shenzhen City and Chizhou City, China.
The company had experience integrating many water service projects across China, including sponge city projects, and it was compliant with most Chinese business regulations—but they needed additional knowledge to meet ABD’s E&S standards. Our team conducted an ESDD assessment that provided corresponding E&S risks and gaps in the company’s operations, developed corrective action plans (CAPs), and provided technical assistance for the company and its projects during CAP implementation.
Our team continues to provide intensive E&S training for the senior management and associated staff members. We also developed an environment and social management system (ESMS) covering all roles and responsibilities, reviewing internal E&S management procedures and requirements, and providing suggestions for internal development.
Our internationally recognized E&S standards assisted the client to manage their E&S related risks regularly, elevating their position in the global financial markets.
