Dalian WWTP BOT Consulting Project

If engineering is one thing, it is collaborative. No one person, or organization, can have all the knowledge and skills all the time. So, when the BOT Consulting Group, and a local design institute, needed design management services, we were excited to join the project to help improve their wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Dalian City.

For our role, we provided a high-level review of the tender document, a feasibility study, wastewater treatment process design, major equipment list, and current estimates of capital and operational expenditures (CAPEX/OPEX). Next, we produced a technical memorandum and conceptual design document describing the overall adequacy of the reviewed items and providing guidelines for later design works performed by a local design institute (LDI). Finally, we provided management consulting services during the basic and detail design phases of the project. We provided comments on division of responsibilities/schedule/quality assurance and control procedures and design documents, and prepared design management reports, conflict review reports, and other feedback.

The design management service might sound like we’re there to look over someone’s shoulder. We’re actually there as another team member tasked to see the big-picture of a complex process, identify improvement opportunities, and save overall CAPEX/OPEX. Our experience in design management, and ability to use tools like BioWin—a powerful industrial process simulation software—helped our client make numerous improvements, achieve cost savings, and deliver better wastewater handling for Dalian City.
