Planning charrettes help with repurposing for a parachute rigging facility

U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz – Planning Charrette Report

For many years, the U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz has been using two outdated buildings as a makeshift parachute rigging facility. The garrison contracted our joint venture with Michael Baker to analyze the existing facility and provide solutions. After collaboration and consultation with stakeholders, a planning charrette report captured the decision history record for the scope, program amount, and justification for documentation. We developed alternatives based on end user input, minimum requirements, and guidance established by regulations and standards.

To identify best practices for space programming, our lead architect analyzed the design for a parachute rigging facility at another installation. The planning team consulted relevant resources and gathered input from end users for a building to be used for handling parachutes—drying, inspecting, repairing, packing, and storing of parachutes, material, and equipment for personnel or cargo parachutes in airborne operations. To improve operational efficiency, the preferred course of action improves the use of the current building’s footprint in conjunction with a minor addition and provides room for the future addition of a second shake-out and drying tower.

The ability to locate washing, drying, repair, packing, and storage functions in the closest possible proximity will allow the tenant to execute their mission.
