The Upper Liffey Valley Regional Sewerage Scheme focused on an expansion and upgrade of the system. It serves several towns in North Kildare including Naas, Newbridge, Sallins, Clane, and Kill and connects the wastewater collection network to a regional wastewater treatment plant at Osberstown in Naas.
The main contractor, Coffey, engaged our team to provide detailed engineering design services for the wastewater network encompassing gravity sewers, rising mains, and new wastewater pumping stations. We also acted as project supervisor for the design process (PSDP) for the detailed design and construction stage of the project.
The scheme extended across three separate collection network catchments in north Kildare and included the upgrade of an existing wastewater pumping station at Sallins along with the construction of two new wastewater pumping stations on existing sites at Clane and Monread. We designed pumping stations at Clane and Monread to meet the requirements of the planning authority, with a natural stone finish to the curved façade at both sites. The project also included the construction of approximately 9 kilometres (5.5 miles) of rising mains and 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) of gravity sewers, with a significant element of the works through the busy trafficked areas of Naas, Newbridge, Sallins, and Clane. The rising main and gravity sewer sections involved trenchless crossings of the M7 motorway, the Grand Canal and the River Liffey.
The completed scheme provides a collection network in line with modern practices and compliant with current environmental legislation and sustainability principles.
