Maintaining the operational continuity of tailings disposal systems

Codelco Tailings Projects - Engineering Services

Chilean state-owned mining company Codelco produces refined copper. Their Tailings Project Management group oversees the development projects in the pre-feasibility, feasibility, and investment phases. This supports the operational continuity of tailings disposal systems across Codelco’s active dams. To support these efforts, Codelco requires the services of an external engineering firm. They’ve selected us as their partner across multiple projects since 2017.

We began by serving as the engineer of record for the Chuquicamata and El Teniente Divisions. Our next assignments included the Diamante and Andesita projects, where we conducted complementary studies and reviews. We provided detailed engineering services for the latter stages of the Carén Dam and carried out feasibility engineering for the Ovejería Dam drainage system, which included a review of the Cyclone Plant. And since 2018, we’ve been offering advice and engineering support on tailings projects in Chuquicamata, Ministro Hales, Radomiro Tomic, El Teniente, and Andina.

Overall, we have helped and continue to help Codelco comply with current national and international regulations and maintain the quality of their engineering and construction practices.
