A premier community in the desert to attract and retain the best staff
In Saudi Arabia, offering premier housing is crucial to attracting and retaining the best staff. Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) was experiencing a loss of staff due to a lack of competitive housing and chose Stantec to design a new residential community unlike any other.
We won SABIC’s design competition by offering community development expertise that understood the unique regional characteristics. We were responsive to cultural sensitivities and showcased that our multidisciplinary team of planners, architects, designers, and engineers could seamlessly translate SABIC’s vision into reality.
The community will offer two interdependent but distinct communities that respect the fundamentalist beliefs of Saudi employees while offering ex-pats the comforts of home. Each is linked by a green network featuring parks, playgrounds, and multi-use trails. Both communities will be supported by a vibrant civic and commercial center. Everything residents need will be available in this self-sustained community which is targeting LEED certification, one of the first of its kind in the Middle East.
