An oasis along the Red Sea, Southern Dunes Hotel offers seven star accommodations surrounded by a remote desert landscape
Inspired by the magnificent desert landscape along the Red Sea, the Southern Dunes Hotel, operated by Six Senses, is a first of its kind, luxury destination. In addition to the things guests see, such as site-sensitive visual design language, it’s the engineering under the surface that helps the hotel set a new standard for environmental sustainability.
The design, inspired by the surrounding sand dunes, uses sustainable, lightweight materials reflecting the textures of the Saudi Arabian desert. The structures are carefully planned and sited to minimize environmental impact, and they use a high-performance thermal envelope to conserve energy. Ranging from dark-sky lighting techniques to reduce light pollution, to bespoke grade foundations to limit disturbance to the soil, our team left no avenue unexplored to engineer this LEED Platinum destination.
The Red Sea Project is the world’s most ambitious sustainable tourism development. Using technology and knowledge of the ecosystem, it aims to go beyond sustainability to even helping regenerate the environment. It will position Saudi Arabia as a leader in regenerative tourism, setting the benchmark for sustainable tourism development.
