Enhancing year-round access to Queenstown’s outdoors with a new cycle and pedestrian link

Arthurs Point, Arrowtown, and Tucker Beach Trail Link

The cycle and pedestrian link between Arthurs Point, Arrowtown, and Tucker Beach is a popular destination for locals and tourists year-round. Creating this trail came with several challenges, and we worked closely with Queenstown Trails Trust (QTT) to overcome them.

Our team provided specialist support across all project phases, including concept and detailed design, safety in design, tender documentation, supporting documents for building and resource consents, and construction monitoring. During the project, we worked on various crossings, including the Kuperus Crossing Bridge on the Wharehuanui Trail and the McQuilkin Bridge and Kimi-ākau Bridge on the Shotover Gorge Trail.

Some of the project's challenges included helicopter transport for the Kimi-ākau suspension bridge, complex geotechnical conditions, constrained sites, and strict environmental and cultural consent requirements. Our team addressed these through thoughtful methodology, flexible design, and careful coordination. From the tender stage, we were committed to strong safety in design, risk management, and compliance with consent conditions.

Today, the Arthurs Point, Arrowtown, and Tucker Beach trail link is a resilient, well-integrated network that enhances access to Queenstown’s natural beauty.
