Canterbury Linen Services Engineering Design

Located on the Dakota Business Park at Christchurch airport, Canterbury Linen Services works with a range of healthcare, accommodation, hospitality and spa and beauty customers throughout the South Island. They wanted to build a facility that would improve sustainability through lower water usage, lower trade waste, and lower emissions of the boiler, fueled with renewable woodchips.

We provided electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and fire engineering, and fire protection services. Our design involved integration of specialized commercial laundry processing equipment from a leading European manufacturer along with accommodating and distribution of energy sources throughout a custom designed building. We coordinated closely with Canterbury Linen Services, the architect, the main contractor, and sub-contractors on the design of the overall facility. We also worked with the European provider and specialist installers to adhere to the requirements of the specialized laundry process machines into the design.

To achieve sustainability goals, we sought to incorporate energy efficient solutions. This included an automated lighting design and a highly energy HVAC system which was installed throughout the laundry process areas and attached offices.

Processing over 180 tons of linen each week, Canterbury Linen Services performs monthly measuring of water, trade waste, woodchips, and energy/fuel consumption as part of their commitment that operations are water and energy efficient as possible.
