WM New Zealand New Headquarters
WM New Zealand’s new headquarters is a purpose-built mixed-use space that accommodates corporate and operational activities, including recycling centers, and waste management services. It comprises 43,056 square feet (4,000 square metres) each of commercial office space and of industrial workshop facilities, as well as a large yard for bins and truck parking.
With the facility targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating, we provided environmentally sustainable design consultancy services during the design process. Since we were using a new rating tool that had not been adapted to the New Zealand environment, this required close consultation with the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) and the design team to account for local considerations in every decision.
Additionally, we contributed to the value engineering (VE) phase, redesigning HVAC systems. We also provided an analysis of alternative fire engineering suggestions, which allowed for a double-height open environment. Both initiatives supported the ambitious sustainability criteria and budget requirements.
The completed building achieved a 5 Star Green Star rating, reflecting WM’s commitment to sustainability and energy-efficient operations while safeguarding the environment.
