Increasing AltaLink’s oversight, control, and confidence in meeting expenditure goals
AltaLink is Canada’s only independent, investor-owned electricity transmission company who develop and operate 11,800 km of transmission lines and 270 substations in Alberta.
When AltaLink began a four-year, CAD$7 billion capital programme to expand its transmission network, it commissioned Stantec to provide programme management expertise and resource augmentation. We developed and implemented standardised controls, reporting and programme management tools to increase AltaLink’s oversight, control, and confidence helping them meet their expenditure goals.
Our introduction of standardised cost control processes and templates supported by scheduling standards and integration protocols, enhanced project planning and control resulting in increased accuracy of monthly cost forecasts and certainty in achieving key project milestones.
We developed a standardised risk management process and database aligned to AltaLink’s corporate risk framework. This enabled risks to be managed consistently across all projects and led to a greater confidence in risk control and contingency estimation. In addition, creating a standardised change management process aligned to regulatory reporting requirements, provided AltaLink with clear visibility of project changes and their impact on risk contingency.
