Ashton Park Urban Extension – The Vale

When Taylor Wimpey wanted to promote a new sustainable community on the edge of Bristol, they brought us in to support. As a key member of the design team, we are providing services in transportation, engineering, drainage, utilities, ecology, ground conditions, noise and vibration, air quality, sustainability, energy, and waste.

Our work to date has established The Vale as an exemplary new community, with a mix of employment, retail, education, and social uses within a walkable neighborhood structure. The design maximizes the benefits of new transportation infrastructure as well as supports the delivery of Bristol’s transportation vision through improved bus services, a new park and ride, and the potential for a new railway station. Land is safeguarded for a future light rapid transit route between the City Center and Bristol Airport, and a flexible approach has been incorporated into the master plan so the development can embrace changes to travel behavior over time.

In addition, our collaborative work on ecology and drainage has created a multi-functional blue-green infrastructure network which offers enhanced habitat corridors, attractive recreational areas, and flood management. The result? A mixed-use sustainable community that extends Bristol’s residential opportunities.
