Developing strategies that can be deployed nationally to improve operational efficiency
Modern Energy Partners (MEP) is a collaboration between our team, Ricardo Energy, the UK Government, and several other partners to support the implementation and deployment of energy solutions. The goal? To cut energy costs and carbon emissions on public assets.
The Ministry of Justice Sheppey Prison Cluster, which is located on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, was one of four sites initially evaluated by the MEP to help develop a toolbox of energy saving strategies that would subsequently be rolled out to government facilities on a national scale. We carried out detailed site assessments of each prison at the Sheppey sites, analysing the existing energy infrastructure, building fabric, and operating processes to ascertain an understanding of where energy saving strategies could be utilised.
We then analysed energy saving options with respect to security, resilience, energy efficiency, future proofing, and installation/running costs. Analysis found that the implementation of these measures could reduce annual energy consumption of the Sheppey sites by up to 40%.
