Based on their flexible, low-cost access and expanding network of sites, PureGym now has over 1 million members in the UK. In 2015, PureGym acquired LA Fitness, adding a significant number of new sites—many of which are located in London and southern England. Our job? Collaborate with PureGym to establish the planning history of these sites and obtain the necessary approvals for them to operate on a 24/7 basis.
We secured planning permission for changes of use, extensions, and variations of conditions for over 40 new sites. That meant town planning advice, planning statements, design and access statements, negotiations on planning conditions, legal agreements, and project management. We also completed transport statements, travel plans, and flood risk, energy, and ecological assessments.
Our expertise with planning policy issues relating to main town centre uses meant that we were always able to provide robust policy justification for new PureGym sites as required by the National Planning Policy Framework. The programme of refurbishing and reopening the 43 LA Fitness sites is due to be completed less than a year after they were acquired.
