Aircraft Maintenance Hangar

In collaboration with the US Army Corps of Engineers in the Middle East, the Egyptian Air Force needed a new aircraft hangar to support the maintenance and repair of up to four fighter type aircrafts. Our team was brought in as lead designer to provide architecture, interiors, civil and airside design, and structural design services on this single-story hangar bay. We also provided consulting design engineering services for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP), communications, and life safety/fire protection design services.

The hangar is composed of conference rooms, administrative support spaces, and various maintenance shops to be used by the Egyptian Air Force operating 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. There is a concrete apron extension to the taxiway and adjoining runway with parking for two additional aircraft. The building will also incorporate green strategies using sustainable techniques and materials.

Our team provided master programming services for the project, confirming the concept floor design and equipment layouts within the maintenance shops with USACE and the Egyptian Air Force. The design was completed in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic entirely with the use of virtual conferencing and without any face-to-face meetings.
