Alamance Church Road Roadway Widening and Water Main Replacement

Strong communities come together for a cause that unites them. At a public meeting, Greensboro residents shared their hopes for improvements to Alamance Church Road. This heavily travelled street needed widening, bike lanes, sidewalks, and regrading to better serve the neighborhood.

When the City called on us to deliver these upgrades, we discovered aging and undersized utility lines below the proposed roadway improvements. As a result, the City asked us to replace the water and sewer pipes in conjunction with the roadway project, which involved asphalt milling and overlay and relocating Bristol Road intersection.

Our transportation and water teams joined forces to provide design, estimating, permitting, bidding, and construction services. We designed drainage upgrades that included storm drain improvements and a wet detention pond. We also designed a water main replacement, 15 water main tie-ins at intersections, a sewer line, and 70 water meter and sewer cleanout relocations. By using retaining walls or reduced berm widths, we maintained water service during construction and mitigated impacts to local businesses and residences.

The neighborhood now enjoys an improved street with utilities prepared to serve the community into the future.
