Building better opportunities for students
More students, greater enrollment. That’s what’s on the horizon for Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC), and the new STEM Building is a step toward better services and better opportunities for students.
What’s something that few other academic institutions in the country offer? Aviation-based programs. ACCC purchased two flight tower simulators and a radar operator simulator, giving them an edge in education. The building also includes labs for biology, organic chemistry, and anthropology. Support spaces include faculty offices, conference and collaborative spaces, lounges, food, and a rooftop astronomy platform.
A vegetated roof, photovoltaic panels, utility conservation, recycled building materials, solar shading, and a bio-retention area make the new STEM Building sustainable, durable, and energy-efficient. Students can monitor solar power generation and review local weather and environmental conditions—making the building itself a living classroom.
Designed to be easily modified, this new facility will readily accommodate future changes in enrollment and curricula.
