Avalon Doral

The City of Doral’s ongoing vision is to create a vibrant downtown destination and enhance community identity—Avalon Doral is a response to this vision. The project collectively known as Atrium at Doral has two major portions: Avalon Doral, a residential apartment building, and Atrium, an adjacent retail development.

Our team was engaged to design Avalon Doral and was inspired by the duality of the urban and natural environments, allowing both to exist simultaneously within the development. One of our main challenges was to blend these strong urban and softer natural elements seamlessly. We designed the development as a large singular courtyard—the exterior skin is a faceted ribbon which wraps along activated sidewalks, a small park, and a bike path. The courtyard’s interior is a central gathering space for residents and is architecturally more stoic, creating a backdrop for a lush sub-tropical landscape with pools located at the heart of the residential amenities.

The design team went to great lengths to orient the amenities in a way that puts everything within reach for residents. In its entirety, Avalon Doral helps activate adjacent public spaces to enhance its public connection and integrate new residents into the community.
