Blending a classic brand with modern design to attract and retain talent and increase collaboration

A family-owned business, Ball Horticultural Company wanted to create a space to not only attract and retain talent, but also emphasize employee wellbeing and sustainable design. There have been six additions since the building was first constructed in 1933, so infrastructure upgrades were required to unify and modernize the space.

Stantec was selected to meet this challenge as well as design an interior that is warm and inviting with a residential feel. Our design included the installation of glass fronts in all offices, so workstations well into the floor plate have access to natural light. In addition, the design equipped each employee with a sit-to-stand desk to promote health and choice. We also designed a variety of conference and collaboration spaces that incorporate environmental branding and showcase Ball's rich history.

Our team took great care to design the space on a limited budget, acknowledging the fact that this is a family-owned company. Certain infrastructure expenses will be necessary, such as a full overhaul of the mechanical systems, but other areas of the space were designed to reuse existing architecture which will reduce costs.
