A joint initiative for the U.S. Department of State, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Barbados Ministry of Health, this new building allows the Barbadian government to consolidate three of their public health laboratories into one facility. The design supports the important research and testing of the Ministry and establishes one of the key medical facilities in the Caribbean. We provided complete lab planning services for the new public health building as well as construction management services during the bidding and construction phases.
Supporting and advancing public health, the national facility provides a platform for the control of infectious diseases including HIV, tuberculosis, leptospirosis, and dengue fever. The two-story, 22,000-square-foot (2,044-square-metre) building houses BSL-3 and BSL-2 laboratories, as well as administrative offices, training and meeting rooms, and laboratory support functions. Lab spaces include hematology, serology, molecular biology, bacteriology, chemical pathology, and quality assurance departments.
