Upgrading infrastructure and enhancing reliability
The City of San Mateo (City) is currently under a cease and desist order requiring improvements to its collection system that will eliminate sanitary sewer overflows and unauthorized discharge. The cease and desist order obligates the City of San Mateo, Town of Hillsborough, and the CSCSD to complete improvements necessary to eliminate conditions in its collection system that cause or contribute to sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs)—and by no later than December 31, 2018.
In response, the City and collaborating agencies created the Clean Water Program. When finished, it will provide a complete, system-wide elimination of overflows during the design-level storm events.
We will provide design services to upgrade aging infrastructure, enhance reliability, and provide capacity for wet weather flows in the collection system. There are three major components. First, a new 4.2 million-gallon in-system flow equalization storage facility will be installed. Next is upgrading and expanding three existing pump stations. The final component is installation of approximately six miles of new parallel and upsized gravity sewers and force mains, along with rehabilitation of existing infrastructure.
