Belmont Sports and Entertainment Complex
With the relocation of the New York Islanders to the multiuse UBS Arena, a unique opportunity emerged to transform the wooded site adjacent to the historic 90,000-seat Belmont Stakes racetrack into a premier destination for entertainment, sports, music, dining and shopping. The New York Arena Partners reached out to our team to help.
In collaboration with Populous, we co-led master planning and architectural efforts for the arena interiors, retail village, and hotel. Our mobility group led the creation of the Elmont-UBS Arena station for the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and developed a comprehensive event management plan focused on travel demand management, operations, and monitoring. This included a range of mobility strategies to reduce vehicular traffic volumes, change travel patterns, or reallocate demand to other modes.
Today, the Belmont Sports and Entertainment Complex offers 43 acres (17 hectares) of mixed-use development. It features a new 340,000-square-foot (31,587-square-metre) retail village, 250-room hotel, community, and upgraded public transportation options including the new LIRR station.
