Central Park Fountain and Ice Skating Loop

Visitors to this unique park would never guess it was the site of a former gravel mine. After decades of transformative planning, the City of Maple Grove was ready for something new—a 45-acre park featuring an ice skating loop and interactive aquatic fountain.

Inspired by lazy rivers in waterparks, we designed the first refrigerated skating path in Minnesota. Ice skaters navigate the 810-foot-long loop through a varied, meandering landscape. Sophisticated ice system engineering enables skating at temperatures well into the 50s. In warmer months, the skating path becomes a trail to rollerblade or walk along.

During the spring, summer, and fall, a 2,100-square-foot interactive fountain uses 67 ground sprays along with synchronized, multi-colored LED lights to provide a stunning light and water show with endless programming options. Whereas splash pads and pools vacate as temperatures cool, this fountain’s versatility attracts crowds for extended water play time and to enjoy the impressive display.

During its first year, this suburban community experienced more than 65,000 visitors to the all-season park, which has become a popular regional destination.
