Central Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Rehabilitation Improvements

Dallas Water Utilities’ (DWU) two main wastewater treatment facilities provide services to more than 2.4-million Dallas residents within a 700-square-mile service area. The Central Wastewater Treatment Plant (CWWTP) is the larger of the two main DWU wastewater treatment facilities and was in need of significant maintenance and rehabilitation improvements.

Originally constructed in the early 20th century, the CWWTP had undergone many expansions, replacements, and modifications throughout the years. Our team stepped in to provide engineering services to DWU for the investigation/study, preliminary design, final design, development of construction plans and specifications as well as bid phase services, construction administration, and start-up of all items needing modifications, repairs, or replacements. One of our biggest challenges was helping DWU replace the plant’s seven mechanically raked fine screens within the White Rock and Dallas headworks.

By scheduling the work during dry season and isolating and re-routing the headworks while repairs were underway, our team was able to phase down time and minimize downstream impacts.
