One of Alabama’s most expensive roadway projects is well worth the expense
Roughly 1.5-miles-long with 14 ramps and 17 bridges, Corridor X is the final link between Corridor X and Interstate 65. The project will all but complete Alabama's 96-mile portion of Interstate 22—the Birmingham-to-Memphis passageway.
This $170-million project is one of the most expensive contracts the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has ever awarded. Consisting of a 4-level, 85-foot-tall interchange with a complex network of ramps, Corridor X tunnels under I-65 to allow I-22 to run beneath the existing interstate.
Our team provided a full suite of site-specific services, including inspection and monitoring of grading, drainage, base and pave operations, piling, and foundations. In addition, we helped ALDOT to interpret engineering drawings for resolution with the contractor, perform material and quality assurance tests, and monitor safety and environmental issues throughout the project lifecycle.
The complexities of the project were certainly worth the challenges. Knowing that our project team helped provide a solution that brings hope for economic growth and development in northwest Alabama is why our team is passionate about roadway design and construction.
