How a venture for power and cost-savings for the client also benefited the surrounding community

How do you pay less for energy, preserve natural resources, and promote cleaner air? Diversify your energy sources. For Croda, that meant looking into the benefits of ground-mounted solar panel arrays. There was a great spot for them too, right across the train tracks.

We designed the array to be installed in a vacant field near to Croda’s large manufacturing facility. The services were then tied into a high-voltage transformer (also on the field’s side of the tracks). But to get the electricity to the facility, we needed to get creative. We used abandoned pipes under the tracks to route our cables. Only the best equipment with maximum efficiency would work, so we included an options assessment in our design.

With our knowledge of state and federal codes and our skill in coordinating with local utilities, we had the needed ingredients for success. There was an added bonus: Croda will be paid for extra electricity given back into the grid. The extra kilowatts produced by this solar panel array will improve efficiencies for the entire community.
