Dallas Area Rapid Transit Communications and Control Systems

For rail systems, good communication is everything. When Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) began its starter system, they brought us on board to focus on their communications and central control systems to help ensure a safe, efficient, and dependable ride for travelers.

To support the opening of the Red and Blue Lines, we designed and managed the construction of data networks, radio systems, supervisory control and data acquisition, control system software, and a complete control center infrastructure that allows DART to monitor and manage the entire system at the click of a mouse. We designed public address and visual message signs, emergency phones, and CCTV systems at each station to keep the public connected and safe.

With the success of these initial lines of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, we then continued our work on the 28 mile, 19 station Green Line expansion. Our prior knowledge of the systems, along with our longstanding partnership with DART, allowed us to gather feedback to improve our designs, reduce construction cost, accelerate the schedule, improve constructability, and reduce the impact of integrating new extensions into existing operations.
