Supporting the development of a large wind farm
Our team is providing environmental and permitting support for the proposed 101.4-megawatt Deer River Wind Farm in upstate New York. In February 2019, Stantec, in coordination with Avangrid Renewables (AR) and project counsel, submitted an application to the New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment for documentation needed to pursue Article 10 certification for construction and operation of the wind farm. This is the first Article 10 application submitted by both AR and Stantec.
For over a year, we assisted a larger team composed of multiple entities involved in civil and electrical design, economic feasibility, cultural, communications, and noise impact studies. In addition to compiling the application, we also prepared the visual impact analysis, wetland delineation and wetland mitigation plan, and addressed substantive requirements of federal and state agencies to minimize and mitigate for impacts to sensitive birds and rare bats.
The Deer River Wind Farm would produce enough clean energy to power nearly 25,000 average homes annually. If built, it would help the State of New York achieve mandates enacted in 2019, which require 70% of the state’s power be supplied by renewable sources by the year 2030.
