Districtwide Zero-Emissions Fleet Infrastructure Transition Study

Motivated by their climate action plan and state and local regulations for zero-emission (ZE) or near-zero-emission (NZE) vehicles, equipment, and supporting infrastructure, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) needed to know the feasibility for their fleet. They reached out to our team to help.

We are providing planning and engineering services for the development of a ZE and NZE fleet conceptual transition study encompassing vehicle technology suitable for MWD’s existing fossil-fueled fleet. The fleet includes passenger vehicles, medium- and heavy-duty on-road vehicles, off-road construction vehicles/equipment, forklifts, and employee commute and rideshare vehicles distributed across over 15 locations. Additionally, we are utilizing our ZEVDecide tool for fleet modeling to predict ZE fuel economy, energy requirements, and expected operational range. Based on driving cycle and other data provided by MWD, we will use this to better understand the fit of ZE alternatives to MWD’s operations.

When finished, MWD can use study results to inform the transition of their 900 fossil-fueled vehicles to a more sustainable and efficient fleet.
