Helping to create accessible waterfront public space and safe bicycle pathways to fully encircle Manhattan.

Our team led the design of the highly anticipated East Midtown Greenway (EMG) in Manhattan from East 53rd to 61st Streets. The EMG is the second of three sections of the East Midtown Waterfront Project to be advanced by New York City. Once complete, it will contribute to closing the ring of pedestrian esplanade and bikeway that will fully encircle Manhattan.

The design intent of the EMG features three major components: a pedestrian bridge, an in-water structure, and the topside landscape and bike path. The new pedestrian bridge at 54th Street will provide a connection for pedestrians and bicyclists between the community and the greenway, and the in-water structure will serve as the foundation for the topside linear park which was designed as a simple and elegant structure.

As the lead designer of the EMG, we coordinated extensively with numerous city agencies to complete construction of this $100 million project by 2022. Services provided include project management, civil engineering, waterfront engineering, structural engineering, landscape architecture, public art coordination, traffic engineering, electrical engineering, and communication systems design.

A new park and transportation corridor on Manhattan’s shore

The East Midtown Greenway is getting Manhattan one step closer to a completed greenway loop. The project, led by New York City Economic Development Corporation, will add 1.5 acres of park space, walkway, and bikeway on an in-water structure
