Elm Avenue is the primary east-west route through downtown Waseca and runs through a tight, environmentally sensitive right-of-way corridor. When the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) transferred jurisdictional authority of Elm Avenue (formerly Trunk Highway 14) to Waseca County, the City of Waseca received the largest roadway and utility improvement opportunity in its history. Stantec worked with the City of Waseca and MnDOT to simultaneously reconstruct the roadway and improve underground infrastructure.
Our team’s work converted Elm Avenue from an outdated roadway to a modern 3.35-mile multi-modal concrete thoroughfare, including more than 100 ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps. We also completely upgraded underground utilities with 8,100 feet of sanitary sewer main, 14,000 feet of water main, and 17,800 feet of storm sewer. Our construction services team worked with the contractor to minimize disruption and maintain access for Waseca’s residents and visitors as they traveled through this busy corridor.
Now revitalized, Elm Avenue will more safely and reliably serve the community for decades to come.
