Supporting a nationwide network expansion to boost daily package volume capacity and enhance speed and service capabilities

When FedEx needed to expand operations in Central Florida, they called on Stantec to provide a full range of services for their new distribution center. Located west of US 27 between Interstate 4 and Waverly Barn Road, this 45-acre site was chosen because of its ease of access to major highways, proximity to customers’ distribution centers, and a strong local community workforce for recruiting employees.

Our work included multidisciplinary planning, surveying, civil/site engineering, and environmental permitting. Because the site is located in the Green Swamp’s area of critical concern, we prepared and processed a comprehensive plan amendment which included threatened/endangered species (sand skinks and gopher tortoises) and wetland impact permitting required by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

The project scope included accommodating 96 truck bays, 286 trailer storage parking stalls, a maintenance/fueling facility, an ancillary security building, and a 575-space employee parking area. Other site work elements included substantial cut/fill and grading, a stormwater management system, and off-site potable water, reclaimed water, and sewer extensions.
