Enhancing the efficiency of the plant through membrane filtration and ozonation
Clark County is in a perpetual state of growth, which requires consistently expanding the life-cycle and improving the efficiency of their water reclamation facilities. For the past 20 years, Stantec has partnered with the County to help meet these demands at their Flamingo Road Water Resources Center.
This multiphase project included 130 MGD of tertiary dual media filtration and UV disinfection plus 30 MGD of advanced treatment through membrane ultrafiltration and ozonation. The high purity water produced by these facilities is returned to Lake Mead and reclaimed through return flow credits.
The tertiary filtration facilities consist of 65 MGD peak hour flow capacity modules. The UV disinfection facility has been upgraded several times to optimize performance and minimize energy consumption. The most recent project was a 260 MGD peak hour flow capacity expansion.
During design of the advanced treatment facility, we built and operated a pilot facility to verify enhanced phosphorus removal and concurrent disinfection/oxidation of trace organic compounds. This helped inform the design process to allow for full-scale optimization to accommodate future unknowns.
These projects raise the bar on treated effluent quality for the regional water resources management strategy, which relies on a one water approach through return flow credits.
