Flint Community Schools engaged our team to provide architecture, engineering, and design services for their transformative new high school project, made possible through a significant investment from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the State of Michigan. The approximately 170,000-square-foot (15,794-square-metre) facility will be supported by a completely reimagined campus, featuring new athletic facilities, outdoor fields, and performing arts spaces that will revitalize the historic former Central High School site.
Strategically located in the heart of Flint, the new high school will provide students with unique access to nearby community and educational resources, including the Flint Institute of Music, Flint Institute of Arts, Mott Community College, and the Flint Public Library. This location strengthens opportunities for academic enrichment, career exploration, and early college connections.
The design thoughtfully honors the legacy of the former Central High School by preserving its iconic central tower. The historic structure will serve as a defining architectural element, which we will seamlessly integrate into a modern campus that reflects both Flint's rich history and Flint Community School’s vision for the future.
Designed to serve approximately 1,000 students, the new high school represents a major investment in educational excellence and community revitalization. The project is expected to reach substantial completion in September 2028.
