Championing a city’s aggressive climate action plan

When the city of Fort Collins came up with their bold Climate Action Plan (CAP) to target carbon neutrality by 2050, they needed the right partner to help put their plan into motion. They found that partner in us.

Our project team began with designing the city’s new utilities administration building to not only support the CAP, but also provide district-scale net positive energy, and sustain healthy, productive occupants. As the provider of the city utilities, a main driver for the project was to showcase their commitment to energy efficiency and stewardship of the environment and resources.

Along with industry collaborators, we focused on developing the perfect combination of building system technologies for this project. Remaining budget-conscious, we applied innovative solutions to the exterior walls that resulted in a reduction of energy use and provides abundant daylight and thermal comfort for its occupants. This project is the first city building (and fourth building of any type) in the world to achieve LEED v4 Platinum certification.
