A solar farm that contributes to the local ecosystem
The owner of the Grand Ridge Solar Farm was looking to incorporate native prairie into their solar project design. Incorporating native prairies promotes pollinator habitats under the solar arrays and can provide stormwater management—we were there to help.
Our team installed custom low growing prairie species across 126 acres in order to keep vegetation below the solar panels. Native seed was installed with a Truax Trillion™ native seeder where applicable, primarily between solar panels. In smaller areas, seed was broadcast using a cyclone seeding. We also provided four years of stewardship services including selective herbicide application, mowing, reseeding, replanting, and monthly site inspections.
With construction now complete, the solar farm is generating renewable energy while also contributing to the local ecosystem.
