Gross Reservoir Expansion (Gross Dam Raise)
We think that strong relationships are key to success on any project—that’s why Denver Water has known they can trust us to provide engineering support for their dam projects for over 40 years, including the Gross Reservoir Expansion Project.
Our work on the Gross Dam has included a broadband of dam safety services, including safety inspections, site-specific Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP), Seismic Hazard Assessments (SHA) and planning studies for additions to the dam itself. We’ve even prepared an innovative, cost-effective final design for raising Gross Dam that modifies the concrete gravity dam into an arch dam to create a structure that will last two thousand years with the proper care and maintenance. This project is the largest raise of a concrete dam using roller-compacted concrete (RCC) in the world.
Over the years, we’ve combined innovative design with proven technologies to develop solutions that minimize risk to Denver Water and their surrounding communities. We worked to minimize impacts to the communities, and ensured our plans and specifications were clear for the contractors to make sure changes to scope and cost during construction were minimal.
