Setting out a plan for superior storm water management

In fall of 2020, the City of Saint Paul Public Works needed to develop a detailed hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) storm water management model (SWMM) of the Crosby Subwatershed. They were wanting to identify storm sewer capacity issues, water quality improvement opportunities, and capital improvement needs—we were there to help.

Our team was brought in to complete the SWMM and water quality models for the subwatershed, a 1,500-acre land jurisdiction including areas governed by the City of Saint Paul, Ramsey County, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and the Capitol Region Watershed District. These models will be used to evaluate potential engineering design solutions for upcoming street repair in the summer of 2022 to help alleviate flooding issues and address water quality concerns. By aligning the designs to Saint Paul Public Works capital improvement needs prior to construction, the analysis the models provide will help to save the City money.

With the models now complete, the community can enjoy better protection from flooding, improved water quality, and be assured that Saint Paul is meeting state and federal water quality requirements.
