I-4 Crosstown Connector/Selmon Expressway

Helping a jointly-funded highway improvement project finish on time and within budget

Creating efficient corridors through downtown Tampa Bay

As one of the first build-finance projects for the Florida Department of Transportation, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, and the Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority, it was critical to successfully deliver the I-4 Selmon Expressway Interchange on time and within budget. They selected our team to provide pre-construction design review, construction administration, and other related services.

This elevated highway includes a series of individual ramps to improve the regional traffic flow throughout the Tampa Bay area and provide direct access to Ybor City, a historic neighborhood northeast of downtown Tampa popular with locals and tourists alike. The new connector provides reversible lanes to accommodate heavy rush-hour traffic and a direct access route to the Port of Tampa for trucks only. This corridor also included open road tolling, eliminating the need for toll booths.

This project has improved regional traffic patterns throughout Tampa by providing a vital transportation link between the Selmon Expressway, a tolled facility, and I-4 and improving access to the surrounding communities.
