Centralizing three existing office stations into a large, unified work space

IBM sought to establish new offices in Herndon, Virginia, to meet the demands of an increasingly virtual workforce. Employees would often work from home or on the road, and having three half-empty offices was wasteful.  Centralizing three existing work stations into one large office space would support flexible work patterns and schedules.

Our design team collaborated with IBM to implement new e-workplace guidelines to promote mobile work patterns while encouraging employee satisfaction and connection to the organization. Managing overall square footage and utilizing space in the right way would allow IBM to increase productivity while reducing overall real estate costs.

IBM's new workplace is valued at over $10 million and was completed in January 2010. The 125,000 square foot property is certified LEED Silver and meets their organization's needs for training and supporting a mobile workforce. An open-floor design, natural light and bright IBM colors provide a comfortable space for teaming, proposal generation, IT infrastructure, and conferencing. Who still wants to work from home?
