Creating a space for students and community to gather
The new Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU) Event Center will serve as a gathering place for a variety of events to enhance student and community life. Replacing the 93-year-old Memorial Gym, the arena was constructed using engineered wood mass timber reflecting Idaho’s wood industry and used locally sourced trees.
Designed as a multi-event and court sports facility, the arena will provide a vibrant and intimate experience for visitors and fans. Plans include a main Vandal (the name of their mascot) home court, practice court, locker rooms, conference space, concessions, media room, and offices. Located on the north side of the Kibbie Dome, the new arena has the potential to take the Vandal basketball teams to a new level of national attention and interest. Our team designed the acoustics and vibration control for this project, including services on two basketball courts, locker rooms, a coaches’ office, and a meeting room.
The University received the highly competitive Wood Innovation Grant to make timber and mass timber construction a focal point of the project. The new venue will rally community excitement, strengthen recruiting, place the University’s athletic facilities on par with other Division I universities, and serve as a gathering place for generations of Vandals to come.
