Busy Los Angeles station's new configuration emphasizes a functional, safe, and user-friendly space
As part of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) System, the Willowbrook/Rosa Parks station has the fourth-highest volume of ridership and serves more than 30,000 riders each day. Built more than 25 years ago, the station required significant improvements to its outdated design layout. That’s where we came in. Our team developed a modernized, user-friendly, and safe configuration to offer riders the most out of their Metro experience.
Our plans called for the complete transformation of the Willowbrook/Rosa Parks station. The facility needed a reconfiguration that would improve the transfer of passengers from one line to the other and offer a community gathering space. We accomplished this by implementing new canopies, vertical circulation, and an extended platform to increase walkability. Another focal point was providing improved access to the neighborhood, landscaping, and seating, which we achieved through the creation of a new civic plaza.
Totaling 20,000 square feet, other upgrades include a new mobility/bike hub, a customer service center, a park and ride section, enhanced bus loading bays, and improved lighting. Our designs—which programmatically elevate the user experience—have also strengthened LA Metro’s security strategy, customer service processes, and signage efficiency.
